Volunteering in Western Australia

BEING A VOLUNTEER - WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME??

Without the SUPPORT of Equestrian Volunteers, events would not be able to run!!

We would like to thank all of the EFA(WA) Horse Volunteer Sponsors:  Department of Sport and Recreation, Anthea-M Designs, Equestricare "Equine Health and Muscle Therapy", Bella Equestrian, Elmar's and Cadbury.

I don’t think that many people realise how important volunteers are, and what an important role you as a volunteer play in Equestrian sport, and I don’t think some volunteers even realise how important they are!!

The EFA(WA) focuses a lot of energy on educating volunteers in their roles, and this year we are also focusing on educating clubs about the treatment of volunteers, and providing more advanced training for volunteers.

Earlier this year we undertook a mass survey on “Satisfaction in Volunteering” and we have already implemented some new ideas based on the feedback itself.

One of the most important aspects we find is that when a volunteer goes to an event that they are looked after properly.  This means that they know where to go, who to meet, and are fed and watered adequately and have breaks!!  When you volunteer at an EFA(WA) event you can rest assured that there is someone with your best interest at heart, and will do their best to make sure you are looked after.  We are currently endeavouring to make this a rule that clubs using volunteers must adhere to.

Have you ever volunteered?   Have you ever thought about volunteering? Would you like to give volunteering a go but not sure where to start?

Well, it’s easy just send me an email at volunteercoordinator@efawa.com.au or give me a call on a Wednesday or Thursday on 9296 1200 and we will get you started.

You will not be thrown in at the deep end, we will make sure that you are looked after, shown what to do and have a rewarding and fun time.   Being a volunteer does not mean all work and no play, You get to be part of a great team, you’ll meet new people and make new friends, you can stipulate when you are available and for how long, it doesn’t mean being on duty all weekend or all day, you can just help for an hour or two whenever it suits you. We will find you a position that compliments your skills and interests and also will be offering training courses throughout the year where you can learn new skills.  If you are a little uncertain about your first time volunteering we will even find you a mentor or get you out at a training day!!

Everyone is welcome from age 14 and there is no upper age limit. You don’t even need to have any horse experience!!  So if you want to give volunteering a go please get in touch and I look forward to hearing from you soon.   We would LOVE to have you on board.

I VOLUNTEER, DO YOU?
