Equestrian in Physical Education Studies

Did you know Equestrian Sports may form part of the practical component of the Physical Education Studies examination and may be used as a method of delivering the year 11 and 12 WACE course?

The news about the NCAS Certificates in schools is a major step in the acceptance of the NCAS Equestrian programmes as valued educational tools and now there are pathways for young riders to pursue while they are at school. PE Studies as a WACE course commenced in 2007 with the first examination in 2008.

Students considering using Equestrian as part of the practical component of the course should consider the following:

1. Contact and discuss their options with the Physical Education staff at their school

2. There are theory and practical components in PE Studies

3. Candidates for the PE Studies Practical exam will be asked to nominate their chosen sport early in the year

            (a) There are 14 "listed" sports which are formally examined, and

            (b) A number of "unlisted" sports (including Equestrian in the disciplines of Dressage,          Eventing and Showjumping) - considered by an Examination Panel.

·          If these sports are approved by the Examination Panel, candidates must prepare and submit a video portfolio that demonstrates their skills, drills and performances in their sport.

Students should contact their Physical Education staff at their school for further details
