Great Southern Grammar takes the EWA Overall School Championship Title again!

Great Southern Grammar team all smiles
Vanessa Fuchsbichler, Wednesday, 9 May 2012

Congratulations members of Great Southern Grammar 2012 Interschool Team for their fantastic successes at the State Championships held in April 2012.
Great Southern Grammar is a long standing success story for Interschools and this year’s team of 14 competitors was no exception.  The fourteen riders represented their school with pride in all four Interschool disciplines of Eventing, Jumping,, Dressage & Showman. Great Southern Grammar Team member Sienna Bergersen won the Overall Champion Rider trophy, a great achievement for the year 10 student who excels in all disciplines – certainly a talent to watch in coming years!

Despite obvious scoring issues which are being expansively addressed for next year, the busy weekend was enjoyed by all and proved a great display of what our young riders in WA can do.  We are continually pleased with the abilities that our youngsters are able to showcase and are almost over whelmed at increasing numbers who use Interschools as a starting point to progression along the EWA pathway. We have seen our riders excel in various EWA competitions (aside from Interschools) and embrace the Equestrian lifestyle, many of our riders have even gone on to be accepted into the BEATS & the High Performance JETS programs.   However we have some non competitive riders who just enter the event for the atmosphere and to represent their schools and of course we encourage these riders to continue to do so!

The Interschool WA committee is currently doing a comprehensive review of the event and is very excited to announce the new changes and professional minded team members who will play a key part in the running of the State Championships in 2013.  We expect next year’s State Championships to be bigger and better with competitors and schools fighting for their chance to represent WA on home turf at the Nationals which will be run at the SEC in October 2013.
